I wouldn't mind as long as the answer was helpful. I don't usually ask questions, because I prefer to find out myself, but I don't like writing lengthy answers to questions I've been asked so I've started directing people to tutorials or useful groups.
Depends on what the question is. But I don't have many options in this poll. When people ask me questions, I try to both explain it as best I can AND link them at least one tutorial for a better look (as long as I know what they're asking about, anyway--otherwise, I'll try to redirect them to someone who does). When I ask other people, I'd like them to either explain it if they're good at explaining them or linking to a tutorial. But one-line descriptions are lame and sometimes brief explanations don't make much sense.
Well, I don't mind being directed to tutorials or FAQ or whatever. The thing is, I never ask people questions unless I have already checked every tutorial, FAQ and whatnot I could find - I prefer to find the information on my own. So I would probably have a very specific question that would require a personalized response
It does depend on the question, but in general I'd rather have someone explain the answer to me instead of say "here look at this," though I am guilty of the latter on my tutorials sometimes because I'm just tired of answering a mixture of questions I've already answered or addressed in the Artist's Comments section or questions I simply don't know the answer to anymore. So it is understandable when people direct you elsewhere, I suppose. I don't know anymore! D:
I change my answer to both. A brief explanation would be fantastic, but a polite direction elsewhere is also sometimes nice.
I don't want it to be cold and impresonal. I like being redirected to tutorials - my question is usually 'do you know of any good tutorials?' rather than 'can you teach me?' but if I got a copy/paste link that would feel rather rude, like I was being blown off.
A comment like "Hello =Emotikonz. I know of a great tutorial made by *username that will tell you all you need to know and a few tips/tricks too. Here's a [link]." is greatly loved and appreciated, since I will get the detail I need but I know that the person isn't considering me just another annoying gnat.

Though a visual aid is helpful, I generally prefer a good explanation.
I change my answer to both.
