So this is going to be a bit of a long journal. Feel free to skip to an interesting part or the whole thing entirely
Not a lot has been happening in my life recently. The end of my time at uni is approaching faster than I'd like so I'm spending some of my time rounding off a number of projects for the year. I should have really spent far more time on a few of them, but oh well. I'll make sure I put a good amount of effort into the time remaining and try and make the most of the situation I've got into.
One good piece of news was the fact I (finally) got the mark back for my other team assessment which was handed in before Christmas. I scored 70.9% which is 0.9% into the highest grade boundary. I would have liked a bit higher, but the feedback seems fair and I can't really complain too much since it's still a very decent mark.
Other than that, not much to report.
One of the projects I'm currently working on for uni is a teaching aid/game to try and teach kids (10-14 year olds) some basics in computer coding - specifically Java. The game is focused around a crane which is able to pick up and move around blocks through the use of a magnet.
What I could do with some help on is coming up with a catchy name for the game. If you have any ideas, please let me know
It appears the OCtopi craze really hit it off and I've just completed my 50th custom commission (though it has yet to be submitted). It's been amazing wandering around the community and spotting them everywhere - it certainly brings a smile to my face.
I thought I'd just add in a note that through the commissions and some very generous donations #Emotication is now subbed until October 2013. What is even better is the fact we are nearly 80% towards a second subscription for the group! Thank you to all who have donated whether through commissions or of your own accord. It's amazing seeing the community pull together. It's not too late to grab a custom avatar - just check out the journal linked in the OCtopi Army box on my front page.
I was tagged twice within the space of 5 minutes, each of which required me to say 5 things about me. So instead of separating them, here are 10 together. To add another fun twist to it, I got =Kyramy to come up with my list to get a view from one of my closest friends.
1. I think moustaches make everything better
2. My emote shading has changes twice since becoming an emoticonist
3. I rarely eat bread or cheese
4. I would love to have a Syn plushie
5. I don't like mince pies
6. I get a kick out of making random gifts for friends to see their reaction
7. I normally eat at Subway at least once a week
8. I travelled to Sweden with `blunaowl to meet up with another deviant (~zachriel)
9. People often get the colour of my OC wrong and this makes me kinda sadfaced. He's not royal blue ;^;
10. I flove kiwi accents
1. Who do you most admire? Artist? Photographer? Writer? Musician?
I'm not sure I could narrow it down to just one person, so I'd say the emote community as a whole.
2. Have you ever done something you wish you could go back and un-do?
Probably. Nothing springs to mind right now though, but I'm sure I could come up with a list given enough time
3. Favourite band?
I don't really have a favourite band because I usually only like a couple of songs from one artist. But some of the bands which have songs in my top songs are Shinedown, 10 years, Two Steps from Hell, Breaking Benjamin and Linkin Park.
4. First concert?
Depends what you class as a 'concert'. i've never seen a band in a concert because I've never found a band I like enough to want to see. However, I did do to am amazing orchestral concert where they played movie music which was outright epic. It's not everyday you see a typewriter playing sheet music xD
5. Question you get asked the most:
"Will you take a look at this emote for me?"
6. Guilty pleasure?
I'm not sure D:
7. What animal are you? (Be unique)
8. If you could live anywhere in the world, where you you go?
New Zealand. Amazing scenery, friendly people and epic accents. Only downside is the timezone being so far ahead of Europe/America and the flight times.
9. What's your lucky/favorite number?
13 Because it's the date of my birth and my house number
88 Because I love the number 8 and love the bingo terminology for this number
1388 because it's 13 then 88
138 I shortened 1388 down to 138. As I use this more often now It's climbing the ranks
10. Would you ever change your name? What to?
My real name - no. I like the name Karen. It's not unusual so people know how to pronounce it and it doesn't stand out. At the same time it's fairly uncommon amongst people my age so I never have the complication of being 1 of 5 Sarah's in a class.
My dA name - I probably wouldn't change it now but I do have moments when I wish it was something different. This is mainly because there are times I'd like to share my dA profile with people offline, but don't really think a name like 'sinful' is appropriate.
11. Most embarrassing thing you've ever done?
I'm not against sharing, but nothing really springs to mind. I guess maybe turning up to one of my first uni lectures an hour early by mistake and realising this only when the lecturer put the first slide up ready to start class.
1. What inspired you to start making art?
Probably originally it was my Grandad. he was a painter so I was always encouraged to do arty things. Saying that it wasn't until I joined dA that I really go into art. So I'd say the dA (specifically the emote) community were a massive inspiration
2. Do you have any hobbies besides art?
Scouting. My parents have been Scout leaders most of my life, so I've attended Scout events since I was 6 months old.
3. What animal do you think you associate with more?
Probably a tortoise. Slow and steady and I sometimes hide in my shell.
4. Do you sing or play a musical instrument?
Can't sing in tune to save my life. I can't play an instrument either, though I'd live to play the piano or guitar.
5. Are there any people you 'dislike with a passion'?
Yup, but I wont name names.
6. Do you know the muffin man?
The muffin man? Who lives on drury lane?
7. What number is your favorite?
8. If you gave up the internet, how long do you think you'd last?
If I don't have the chance to access the internet, then I'm fine. I spent 6 weeks in Africa and it didn't bother me in the slightest. However, if I have internet access and just can't connect I manage as well xD If I had to give it up right now, then a few hours. Since I use the internet for my main line of communication (emails and Skype calls) it's not that straight forward.
9. When did you join dA?
18th Feb 2006 - though I'd lurked about on the site for about a month before that
10. Who was your first friend or watcher on dA?
~Malpercio - She got me into dA and is a relative, so it's not surprising she was my first. The next few were all her school friends. My first un-promted watcher was ~OoLoverlyMargaritaoO
11. Do you actually like answering questions?
This set wasn't too bad
