Fair point. Emotes should never be that massive, but 15kb is pretty easy to hit with gradients ... from experience. 100kb should be fine for a chat emote, though not emotes in general.

100kb should be plenty enough for "chat friendly" emotes.
(and this is why I don't use gradients ;P)

Even I, who am not a emoticonist, understand it only now that you explained.:stare:

My statement on HQ:

First off it's great to see the spotlights on emotes. They are here to enhance intentions/emotions in messages.

My view:
1. Great idea, people can use about every emote in comments on dA, creating plz accounts would barely be useful anymore
2. Big animations (150x150) are, in my opinion, a bad idea. Why? Me and other people love to go through comments. Now imagine that
100 deviants post 150x150 animations in every comment, taking up loads of space. Scrolling through messages would be a nightmare.
I would scrape that, only small animations would be sufficient enough.
3. Question: If a emote is on that site and you change categories on a deviation will it be removed from that site automatically?

Just my 3 cents on it...

I full agree on scrapping 150x150. Things that large really aren't designed for comments

Something to mention is that you won't be required to write :emote123456789: every time you want an emote. The aim is to be able to simply type ::something and an auto fill in drop down will give you all the emotes about something :) the :: may change, we just didn't want something that people would normally type
