This is the 124th volume in a fortnightly series aimed towards promoting emote and emoticonists from the dA community. It features emotes posted within the past few weeks from both well known and new emoticonists, as well as featuring emote projects, contests and news.

Master of Elements by ~KinnisonArc is a really impressive emote scene. Each of the elements gives an intense sense of power and the image in the middle just helps the elements flow together. The emotes in each corner fit really well and the expressions help give a sense of individuality to each Master.

The bright colours of the lava in Hanging on for Dear Life by ~PokeartKid really grabbed my attention. The details included in the whole background really help bring the scene to life and give a realistic feel to the situation.

Emoticon Legend Style UpdatesMorning All

As it says on the tin, there's been a style update to the emoticon legend

If you can remember, when you used to click on the "Emoticons" button in comment, notes or dAmn, you used to get a popup box with a colour scheme from dA v1... it was all very... 1999

Well it has now had a facelift

We've gone out with the popup and in with a shiny new modal

And I'm glad to say that the colour scheme has also been updated to make it look a little more like it belongs in 2011

Hopefully it should be working everywhere now (except the dAmn shoutbox is still a popup)

I've been working a couple of emote related things recently, so hopefully you'll get to see the results of some of these other projects some time in the near future

The Emote Revival Contest - Part TwoRegardless of if you've ever created an emoticon or not, the chances are high that emoticons are a part of your online life. Yet, sadly, the deviantART Emote Community is one that tends to not get enough notice.
I bring to you a community wide contest with a focus on emoticons. This is a three part contest which will involve emoticonists as well as the dA Community as a whole.

Random Emote Awesomeness - Volume 11Volume 11 in the series that showcases a random variety of emoticons: some old, some new, some by seasoned emoticonists, some by new artists. There's no real rhyme or reason as to which pieces are featured. Sometimes I pick a theme such as animals, other times it's just whatever strikes my fancy. Below are the current group of awesome emotes hand-picked by me (and sometimes a guest). Much like the title, this News feature will publish a bit randomly. Yo! <3 My name is Kristen, but most people know me as Bliss. I'm eighteen years old and live in the U.S.A.
What gave you the idea to register with your username?
BlissfullySarcastic was a pen name of mine, and this account was originally for lurking and writing, so I figured I'd use the same name. Oxymorons...fun stuff.
How has deviantART changed your life?
I've never really thought about it. Huh.
It glued me to my computer, if that counts as changing my life. It taught me how to trollolololo

dA Staff Appreciation Week - Emote dA HQ Project:iconstaffappreciation:

As part deviantART Staff Appreciation Week, `SanguineEpitaph and #StaffAppreciation team have come up with a fun project for deviants.
Ever wonder what it's like at deviantART Headquarters? So do we! And since most of us will never know, we've decided to let our imaginations run wild and create what we think HQ would be like...if it were run by emoticons!
This project is open for anyone who can create an emote or some sort of pixel art. The project challenges you to make piece representing a part of dA HQ. You can create something specific to a real-life member, such as an emoticon of $Moonbeam13, or something abstract like a general emote member of the Help Desk. We're also looking for pixel furniture (think desks, chairs, sofas), art for the walls, and other fun stuff you might imagine in the HQ offices. The #StaffAppreciation team has started things out, adding some rooms and props. It's up to you to help us complete the pic

Emote Bookmark Project (20)A couple of days i uploaded a Emote Bookmark of my OC Syn and the response to it has been far more positive than i ever thought it would be. i've had numerous people mention how they have or want to make one themselves and people have really taken up the idea. So after talking to a few fellow emoticonists, i decided i'd make a project out of these bookmarks.

How do i make one?
Its actually really simple and straight forward to make one yourself. There are a couple of different ways to make the base of the bookmark, each of which are easy to complete even for the less paper-craft experienced deviant. The tutorial can be found on this page, so check it out:

CodePLZ - the emoticonist version

#hq has just announced some more information on the whole 'codePLZ' concept and tbh, i had to read through the journal about 3 times to understand the termonology used. Therefore i decided to write up an 'emoticonists' version. This is my interpretation of what has been written. Let me know if any of the details are wrong.

What is codePLZ?

CodePLZ is a new feature that is currently in production to replace the current Emoticon Legend to allow more emotes to be used anywhere around the site. This means we wont be confined to only emotes on the 'official list' but allowed to pick and choose any 'chat friendly' emoticon available.

This feature would be implemented in the place of the long awaited 'emote dictionary' you may have heard about.

How will it work?

When you submit a chat friendly emote to your gallery, it will be given a unique code (similar to a thumbcode - possibly :emote2523422: ) which could be used in areas of the site where thumbcodes are not normally allowed (ie regular comments). This would mean that if i wanted to use `BlissfullySarcastic's :lovely: emote i could grab the specific emote code for the lovely emote, post it in a comment and it would appear.

What are these categories?

dA wants to scrap out general 'chat friendly' category and replace it with 3 new categories separating the chat friendly emotes by size. The difference in size would allow some emotes (ie the smaller ones) to be used in more places than say the 150x150 ones. These categories are:

chat friendly (Chat friendly PLZ)- 15x15 to 25x50
plz emotes (small PLZ 50x50) - 25x50 to 50x50
full thumb (large PLZ 150x150)- 50x50 to 150x150.

The full thumb limit would be 150x150 as this is the max size an emote can be before you need a preview image

What now?

dA want your input on the categories - especially the category names. Let them know how you feel on the official blog

yeah thats understandable, this crtainly will be helpfull to alot of emoticonists and make it easier. i just meant that i dont think i will stop using plz accounts, and i think alot of deviants will be the same way

though honestly i find my self using less plz accounts lately

Well since this system is only going to be for emotes, other non-emote plz accounts will still be around So plz accounts will never fully die out

and you know a tone of people are going to use this to their advantage and put a ton of non emotes in there so they can use them in comments... looks like some of us lurkers could be in for a report spree *cracks knuckles*

1. Max 50 x 50, pleeeaaase.
2. Max 15 kb or something.
3. Assign someone (or some people) to clean out these parts of the emote gallery to keep it to JUST emotes. Not some gif'd anime crap.

It doesn't have to be 15kb, but there are emotes out there that are in the hundreds of kb, and when I'm using my brother's slow computer, it freezes whenever there's a few big GIFs running on a page. So maybe 100 kb or something, I just don't fancy the idea of someone using a few half mb emotes on one page.
